Why Stronger Doesn't Always Mean Better

Why Stronger Doesn't Always Mean Better

One thing that almost everybody gets wrong about candles is thinking stronger always means better.

But the thing is, a candle that just smacks you in the face with fragrance isn't automatically a better candle.

A really good candle should develop as it burns, and it's something we work really hard on at The Wandering Bee.

Fragrance should have layers

Everything you have from us should be layered, considered and complex, like an onion.

There should be many layers to a fragrance, and different notes should reveal themselves as it burns.

So, if you buy a cheap vanilla candle and it smells dead strong and it's just vanilla, and that's what you want, then great.

But at The Wandering Bee, we want something that unfolds really beautifully and tells a story as it burns.

It might start with vanilla, lead into a gorgeous tonka and finish with a beautiful creamy sandalwood.

We're creating fragrances with depth.

It's about elevating a space

It's not just about the fragrance itself.

I believe, and it's something I've built The Wandering Bee on, that fragrances shouldn't overpower a space.

They should elevate it.

You should be able to walk into a room and go:

"Oh my God, it smells gorgeous in here."

Not walk into a room and say:

"Bloody hell, that's a strong candle."

Because good performance is about balance, not max strength.

Why we test so much

This is why we spend so much time testing waxes, wicks and scents.

For me, a really good candle isn't just a candle that smells strong.

It's about a candle that really makes a room feel different.

That's what we're always trying to create at The Wandering Bee.
